Vanaf maandag 2 mei startte een staking in het Charité in Berlijn , met zijn 13.000 werknemers één van de grootste universitaire ziekenhuizen in Europa. Op 15 maart had er reeds een goed opgevolgde waarschuwingsstaking plaats. Een overweldigende meerderheid van 92,9% van het personeel stemde voor de staking tot de finish vanaf 2 mei.
Het gemiddeld loon van een Charité-werknemer ligt 14% lager in vergelijking met gelijkaardige ziekenhuizen in de openbare diensten. Een verpleegkundige in het Charité ziekenhuis verdient gemiddeld 2300 tot 2400 Euro bruto. Vandaar o.a. de looneis van 300 Euro extra per maand voor elke werknemer. Verder is er ook nog de loondiscriminatie (tot 20%) tussen werknemers uit het Westen en het Oosten: meer dan 20 jaar na de val van de muur... In Duitsland kent men ook het fenomeen van onderaanneming in de ziekenhuizen om de lonen te drukken. Zo werken er rond de 2500 werknemers in het CFM (Charité Facility Management) aan 5,5 Euro per uur. De directie van CFM bedreigt haar werknemers met ontslag indien zij deelnemen aan de staking van de werknemers van Charité.
In 2006 had er ook een langdurige staking plaats en toen werd er vanuit België eveneens een solidariteitsboodschap naar de stakers gestuurd: “Solidariteitsboodschap van Belgische syndicalisten met de Charité-stakers”
Een sleutelmilitant van BBTK gezondheidszorg stuurde dit weekend in naam van de medewerkers van Polsslag een solidariteitsboodschap naar Carsten Becker, de voorzitter van de vakbond Ver.di van het Charité ziekenhuis. De boodschap, die kort verwijst naar de situatie in België, is in het Engels opgesteld aangezien niemand onder ons voldoende beslagen is in het Duits. Dear workers of the Charité Hospital,
We have heard about your strike through the comrades of SAV – Sozialistische Alternative.
We send you our full support for your struggle for higher wages and better working conditions, as we here in Belgium are involved in a long struggle for a new multiannual national collective agreement for the whole healthcare sector but that is refused with the excuse that we have no government with full powers for nearly a year. We have heard that your colleagues from Charité Facility Management were threatened with redundancy if they took part in the strike for a collective agreement and better working conditions at the Charité.
This attack on the right to strike is an attack on all working people. Only if we stand firm in solidarity will we be able to defend ourselves from such attacks. Throughout Europe governments and the bosses are preparing for our fight backs against wage cuts and austerity measures. Italy, Spain, France: everywhere we see attacks on the right of workers to strike. Such attacks have to be met by common action and support.
It is the workers who produce the value, who care for the patients, who maintain society. If we stand together in solidarity, if we do not let them disunite us, we are a force that cannot be ignored by the employers. One finger can be broken. Five fingers make a fist.
